iPod Touch

ipod-touchThe iPod Touch is the first touch screen iPod complete with 3.5 inch multi-touch color LCD screen.  More than just a portable music and movie player, the iPod touch also integrates gaming and other applications (called apps) as well as wi-fi web browsing.  This is by far the most diverse iPod in apple’s line up.  Other than the iPhone, of course.

What does iPod Touch stand for?
Functionality and Fun. The touch screen interface on this iPod revolutionizes how users browse their music and movies.  Scrolling through your collection has never been easier or more fun.  That’s not all, however.  Touch controls combined with the advent of iPod/iPhone apps adds a brand new twist to iPods: Gaming.

iPod GAMES!!! And not just Solitaire…
The iPod touch LCD isn’t your run-of-the-mill touch screen.  It has what’s called a multi-touch interface.  Most touch screen devices use just single touch-click, double-touch-click, and touch-swipe for controls.  Multi-touch works by additionally allowing two fingers to move independently from each other for control over things like zoom and controling multiple fuctions simultaneously.  In addition to the multi-touch interface, the iPod touch also has a built in accelerometer for tilt controls.  This control scheme makes for a gaming experience never before seen on a personal device.

What does iPod, Wi-Fi, and the Internet have in common?
One of the most overlooked features of the iPod Touch is the built in speakers.  That’s probably because they seem pointless.  That and the built in Wi-Fi reciever is so much more useful.  You can browse the web with safari, connect to friends through your favorite social media app, or find out where you are with Google maps.  With a Wi-Fi connection, you can also purchase and download apps right to your iPod touch without having to sync to a computer through iTunes.  The power of the internet now in an iPod.

What are iPod apps?
Apps (or Applications) are specially designed programs for the iPod touch and iPhone.  These games and programs generally take full advantage of the touch controls and internet connectivity.  There are about 20,000 (and counting) current apps available through iTunes or the built in App store.  Everything from Instant messaging, social netowrking, travel, news, and more.

The iPod Touch adds new dimensions (yes plural) to personal multi-media devices.  It adds the power of the internet and revolutionary interactive controls to a product that was originally designed to simply play music.  It’s clear to many that this device may just represent the future technology of personal entertainment.

The iPod Touch comes in 3 models: 8GB($229), 16GB($299), and 32GB($399).
