palais: Not necessarily crap, but just not that great...Looking back at my article, I said it wasn't "neccessarily a “blunder” per se, but something of a miss by iPod standards".

It's funny, the only thing I watched on it was the pilot episode of Arrested Development! It gave me a huge headache, though ;) I just think they could have waited to release video when the screen was a bit larger... but that's my opinion.

admin: Oh alright then, it might have been considered crap.. but I loved it. I watched 3 seasons of scrubs, all of Arrested Development and numerous movies on it, all while I was supposed to be working. I guess that is why I have such fond memories of it!

palais: I totally disagree... Reading through reviews, it wasn't at all successful as a portable video device. Especially considering how difficult it was to get video content on the thing, and how inexpensive portable dvd players were at the time. I know all too many people who bought it, watched 1 video and never used it for that again. It wasn't a complete failure, but certainly not a great success as a video device.

You could hardly say the iPod Video failed.. I watched heaps of shows on it, and you could use it as a portable media player with video out on your t.v.
It was a great device, heaps of storage and easy to use. You should have stuck with 6 blunders.

Rob: Probably Amazon, but I can't find one anywhere...

dxr: I agree and MMS is just as basic a function, but what gets me is the refusal from Apple to accept that copy/paste is important...

bmwm5er: That's just it...profit seems more important than function. That goes for all companies, though. At least Apple still innovates...

JB: Good call...that should be on the list for sure... AT&T has horrible coverage where I'm from. I've been forced to stick with Verizon for that very reason... Despite my problems with them!

In my humble opinion, their exclusivity contract with AT&T is a fail. Ask most current subscribers, and I think they'd emphatically agree that they'd gladly still be iPhone users on any other network except AT&T. And ask me? Well...I'm a bit biased...but I sure wish it was available on Verizon.

The worst part is how Apple purposely holds off on upgrading features just so people have a reason to upgrade when they include it in future versions.
How do you make a video player and not include speakers, unless there's a good reason not too.. Too bad Apple prioritizes profite over consumer satisfaction.
Even if I had to pay 50 dollars on top of my 500 dollar device for such a simple yet elementary inclusion I would. But no, they want another 500 dollars from me in 2 years..

Good article. I would only swap out the copy/paste feature, which is nice to finally have, but not as important as the just added MMS feature. MMS has been a staple of non-smart phones for years now. To not have it on a 'semi' smart-phone is just a joke and insult. Especially when your only option to view the message was to log into an incredibly crappy web portal with two inane passwords (the only real time I wished I had copy/paste, ironically) only to view the picture at the lowest resolution possible (without even being able to save it!) was a slap in the face.

All is well now, yes. The MMS feature is kind of fun on the phone, actually. But it should have been a first gen feature no-doubt.
